Summary: HP confirmed plans to resell the Azure public cloud infrastructure service starting in 2016.
Details: HP is a close partner with Microsoft and is not yet supporting AWS that we know of. Not surprisingly, HP will come in and build value on top in the form of managed services and consulting. The move isn’t a big surprise given HP’s very public pronouncements of not being able to compete in the public cloud market. HP is already reselling and supporting Office 365 in its own data centres and it is possible Azure will follow the same path.
Angle: A good example of how the massive-scale cloud is going to be a very short field. HP had ambitions of being a scaled provider but looks like it is going to focus on managed services. Better now that they have come to this decision rather than dragging out a difficult battle even longer. HP is also likely to push hybrid though pre-installed Azure environments on its converged infrastructure stack. This could be an interesting opportunity.
