Summary: Reliam acquired G2 Tech Group, a Boston-based AWS cloud consulting shop. We followed up and learned that G2 will bring 36 customers into the fold and a headcount of 16. This move closely followed the acquisition of another AWS shop called Stratalux. G2 is said to have expertise in the healthcare and life sciences verticals. In contrast, Stratalux is strong in media, entertainment, e-commerce and gaming. The plan is to run the shops independently and then merging them fully under a new brand. Reliam is backed by Great Hill Partners and the goal is to acquire more capabilities when the opportunity arises. In the future that will likely mean shops that lean to other cloud platforms like Azure and Google (Reliam already does support Azure). Reliam’s strategy is looking a bit like what Claranet is doing in the UK and Europe: picking off consulting shops with specific geographic and technology strengths.
