Summary: iomart subsidiary SystemsUp worked with UK law firm Farrer & Co migrate its entire IT infrastructure to Azure. The company needed to upgrade its ageing IT infrastructure and communications network and considered several options. It rejected replacing the infrastructure on the grounds of cost, and decided against colocation in a third party data centre because of the day-to-day management requirements. It was already running some key applications in SaaS environments, so was comfortable operating in a cloud environment, and selected Azure because it was already using a number of Microsoft services. SystemsUp recommended Silver Peak’s Unity EdgeConnect SD-WAN solution when the testing stage revealed that some apps weren’t performing as well in the cloud as they did on-premise, and secure connectivity to Azure was achieved through ExpressRoute. SystemsUp built the production environment in one Azure region, built a copy in another, and then copied the live data for end-to-end testing of the migration plan. The migration itself took place over a weekend and the entire project 18 months. SystemsUp conducts ongoing monthly health checks of the Azure environment and makes recommendations to the customer around cost savings, performance and security. It is now working with Farrer to help it use other technologies available in Azure. SystemsUp was a cloud MSP iomart acquired and this is an example of how it fills a gap for iomart, while opening up the possibility that it get more a customer’s IT requirements.
