Summary: Microsoft put two new Azure Government Secret regions into private preview pending government accreditation. They are located 500 miles apart and have been designed specifically for the US Federal Civil Service, Department of Defense (DoD), intelligence community and US government partners in secret enclaves. Microsoft also updated its existing Azure Government data centres to comply with DoD impact level 5 (IL5) data, for controlled unclassified information that requires a higher level of protection. It is also working to release new Azure Blueprint compliance management and enforcement services for FedRAMP and DoD security requirements. The moves come as Microsoft and AWS are the sole remaining contenders for the DoD’s JEDI cloud contract. IBM and Oracle having been excluded for not meeting the minimum requirements for the contract.
