Summary: Tata Communications will build a proof-of-concept solution for new connected car applications by integrating its MOVE platform with the Microsoft Connected Vehicle Platform (MCVP). The MCVP comprises 40 different Azure services, including Automotive IoT Edge to ensure continuous over-the-air (OTA) updates of new functions and Azure Maps for intelligent location services. The MOVE platform is a fully managed connectivity offering that uses Tata’s own global network and partnerships with over 600 mobile network operators. The combination of MOVE and MCVP is intended to address the security, safety, scalability, interoperability and management challenges that are currently holding back the development of vehicle-to-everything (V2x) applications. Tata’s aim is to enable those in the connected car space (manufacturers, dealers, insurers, fleet operators and others) to bring new services to market quickly and cost-effectively. That it’s going the proof-of-concept route rather than working with an industry partner demonstrates just how early stage the connected car market is – but the potential is huge and would have a massive spin-off impact for cloud infrastructure growth. The big question, of course, is how long will this take to get to market.
