More delays to JEDI contract

Summary: The US Department of Defense has asked for 120 days to reconsider certain aspects of its decision to award the JEDI cloud contract to Microsoft Azure, in response to technical challenges raised by Amazon in its legal battle to overturn the contract award. The main issue appears to be Microsoft’s online storage capability, which AWS alleges is not compliant. The DoD believes the quickest way forward is to address the Court’s concerns. It may feel that the best way to avoid a long legal battle will be to break up the JEDI contract – the decision to go with a single source contract has long been criticised. But that might not be a question of simply splitting it between Azure and AWS as others would want in on the action. Oracle challenged the single source decision, while Google said it would have bid on a multi-supplier basis.
