Summary: Microsoft confirmed a $1.5b five-year investment plan for Italy. It is similar in scope to Microsoft’s plans for Poland: build a data centre for a new cloud region (the region will be Milan) and up-skill locals to help accelerate adoption of cloud and digital infrastructure. Microsoft is also deepening its partnership with Poste Italiane, Italy’s postal service and its largest service distribution network with nearly 13k post offices and 130k employees. The two will jointly launch a digital skilling project for employees. Poste Italiane will also deploy Azure and other Microsoft services to accelerate its own digital transformation. Poste Italiane was publicly listed in 2015 but is still 65% state owned through the Ministry of the Economy and Cassa Depositi e Prestiti.
