Summary: New Zealand dairy co-operative Fonterra is Microsoft’s first customer for its proposed New Zealand data centre region. Under a five-year agreement, Fonterra will migrate data and workloads, including mission-critical operations, from on-premise data centres to Azure. It expects to be able to increase the amount of data that can be collected and analysed in real time to help optimise its supply chain and manufacturing operations. The company is trialling machine learning tools to detect faults in powdered milk in its factories, and expects to gather data from devices like IoT sensors on farm milk vats and smart machines in factories.
