Summary: Oracle and Microsoft launched an interconnect region in Frankfurt, enabling direct connectivity between Oracle Cloud Germany Central (Frankfurt) and Azure ExpressRoute locations in Frankfurt and Frankfurt 2. It is the seventh interconnect region globally and the third in Europe, adding to London and Amsterdam. The regions must have sub 2ms latency and Frankfurt testing came in at 1.7ms. An interesting use case for the Azure-Oracle cloud interoperability partnership, established in 2019, was disclosed in Colt Data Centre Services. It had been running an Oracle database that hosted customer data and billing on Microsoft Azure, but found the platform could not keep pace with growth and incurred high hosting and support costs. When the partnership was established, Colt DCS worked with systems integrator DSP to implement a native solution that runs its Oracle Database on Oracle’s cloud infrastructure, which was faster and more cost effective.
