Summary: Microsoft confirmed it will phase out its remote application delivery service, Azure RemoteApp in favour of Citrix XenApp. The two companies are working together on a new version of XenApp called XenApp Express that will combine the application remoting capabilities of RemoteApp (which was released in 2014) with the enterprise capabilities of XenApp. Microsoft will end support for Azure RemoteApp on August 31, 2017, and is working with its hosting partners to help customers make the transition. The announcement comes after a significant expansion of the longstanding partnership between the two companies was revealed in May. In essence, Citrix will centre all of its cloud strategy and products on Microsoft Azure going forward. The companies claim the move is being made due to customer demand to have an integrated and end-to-end way to move applications and desktops to the cloud.
