Summary: The Renault-Nissan alliance awarded Microsoft a global multi-year contract whereby the parties will develop Azure-powered connected services for cars, such as navigation, software updates, remote monitoring and predictive maintenance services. Compliance commitments and security were factors behind the decision to go with Azure, and Nissan is already an Azure customer. France-based Renault and Japan-based Nissan have been strategic partners since 1999 and sold 8.5m cars in nearly 200 countries in 2015. They plan to develop connectivity technologies and features to support the launch of more than 10 vehicles with autonomous driving technology by 2020, alongside services to maximise in-car free time.
