Summary: The Qatari government gave the green light for Microsoft to set up an Azure data centre in the country. It would be Microsoft’s third region in the Middle East, adding to the UAE central region in Abu Dhabi and UAE north in Dubai, which are expected to launch this year. Perhaps not coincidentally, the government also issued a draft law to set up a new city dubbed Media City, which aims to attract companies including tech firms in the digital media sector. Qatar is a coastal country in the Persian Gulf that is bordered by Saudi Arabia, close to Bahrain, and along the coast from UAE. Qatar is also home to the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
