Summary: Colt added optimised Internet connectivity to its range of options for reaching Microsoft‘s cloud. That means Colt customers now have three means of accessing the platform: through ExpressRoute, which is a private connection; through Colt’s peering arrangements with Azure, and through this new service. Why the need for three? Each has a different price point, with a pay off between performance, security and expense. The direct connection has an SLA, while the other two do not. The peering connection is private, which alleviates some security fears, but there is no SLA. The IP connection meanwhile uses the public networks: there is no SLA there either and to compensate the traffic is optimised. This optmisation aspect of the service means that customers can prioritise Teams or 365 traffic over the network, which could be a useful feature for Colt’s mainly SMB customer base.
