Summary: Beyond.pl will significantly expand its data centre campus in Poznan, Poland, halfway between Warsaw and Berlin. The campus currently features two data centres with gross floor space of 12k sqm and 8MW of available power. No word on timing, but the floor space will grow to 45k sqm while the total power capacity will increase more than five-fold to 42MW. The new capacity will support high-density colocation needs of up to 20kW/rack. Beyond.pl notes strong demand from Polish companies, which has accelerated as a result of the pandemic, as well as interest from cloud providers, SaaS companies, hyperscalers and large enterprises looking to serve the central European market. Beyond.pl claims simlar service availability to data centres in western Europe, but at a competitive price due to lower energy and labour costs. The move comes soon after a new CEO took the helm at Beyond.pl as the company responds to growing hyperscale interest in Poland. Both Google and Microsoft are investing significant sums to develop cloud regions and invest in the wider technology ecosystem and training. Poland is not a market known to have a lot of hyperscale-ready inventory so Beyond.pl should be in the running for leasing scenarios that come up in the market.
