Summary: Portland-based MSP Atmosera sold its colocation business and three data centres to Digital Fortress, based in Seattle. The facilities are all based in the Portland area. The data centres and colocation business were first built out by Atmosera, which was previously called Easystreet Online Services, founded in 2001. Seaport Capital acquired Easystreet back in 2013 and provided hybrid infrastructure services to customers. For the last six years, it has shifted to focus more closely on the managed Azure business and this has been the primary driver of growth. The sale of the business allows Atmosera to focus on the managed Azure business, and just as importantly, free up capital resources that would normally be required to operate and maintain data centres. Going increasingly asset-light allows Atmosera to focus in on the manpower and technology it needs to transition fully to the managed third party cloud space. Digital Fortress, based in nearby Seattle, is focused on colocation and has a multi-market footprint that extends from the pacific northwest to Denver, Chicago and New Jersey. Atmosera’s decision to narrow its focus and zero in on the upside of an emerging segment is a strategy that more providers will follow as the managed third party cloud category continues to mature.
