Summary: Microsoft confirmed plans to build in-country data centres in Malaysia. Microsoft is also collaborating with the Malaysian government to help train digital workers and hopes to have 1m people trained by the end of 2023. Presumably, launch of the Azure cloud in Malaysia will come in the 2022-23 time frame, but no specifics have been released. There is hyperscale-grade colocation inventory developing in the Kuala Lumpur area from the likes of NTT GDC, Chindata and others. Microsoft is set to build multiple AZs and absorption from multiple providers is likely.
