Summary: The UK’s Met Office has been running its weather observations website (WOW) on the Google cloud platform since 2011, but has transitioned it to Azure for its PaaS capabilities so it can pull in more data sources and reduce its in-house developer requirements. WOW was originally set up for members of the public to contribute information they gather. In this second version, the Met Office will use APIs to collect and extract data. It is also using the Microsoft IoT Hub and Microsoft Content Moderator to ensure the weather data it shares is relevant and high quality. The work was undertaken by UK Microsoft partner New Signature (known as Dot Net until July, following its acquisition by the US company of the same name in May).
