Summary: Atmosera has a long history beginning in 1995 as a regional ISP. Now, it’s fine-tuned its strategy and moved from pureplay managed hosting and infrastructure to providing hybrid Azure deployments as a full-service MSP.

Details: Atmosera has enhanced its managed Azure offerings to include public, private and hybrid cloud deployment capabilities. At the centre of this is a four-step methodology which includes assessment, migration, re-platforming and operations. Atmosera has also expanded its global support centre to provide integrated and proactive monitoring and support 24x7x365, and made significant investments into IT services infrastructure to ensure maximum uptime and availability. It offers both fully managed and unmanaged services.

More details: To get customers up and running quickly, Atmosera provides five pre-packaged offerings, including: Atmosera Archive, Azure Backup, Disaster Recovery, Cloud Migration and Atmosera Follow the Sun Master Data that can be purchased individually, mashed together and also customized. While the first four are self-explanatory, the Follow The Sun offering deserves a bit more explanation. Atmosera takes advantage of regional Azure data centres to run workloads and collect data according to the time zone, and replicates the data and transfers it to data centres in other time zones as a new workday begins in order to optimize resource usage, streamline operations and reduce costs. For example, New Zealand-based outdoor and sports clothing and apparel provider Icebreaker uses Atmosera Follow the Sun to optimize inventory management throughout its global supply chain while only paying for the cloud resources consumed in each region during business operations.

Other services: Atmosera also provides: information security through a partnership with InfoSec; DDoS and Web Application Firewalls through a recent partnership with Cloudflare; and, other security services through its backup, recovery and remote application management offerings. The company also has HIPAA/HITECH, HITRUST, PCI-DSS, IRS-1075 and SSAE 16 compliance certifications for Azure, private clouds and its 22,000 square ft. colocation facility. In addition, Atmosera provides managed DevOps services for database administration and software release management.

Angle: Atmosera’s overall philosophy is that IT and cloud is no longer a technology discussion, but a business one. The company recognizes that many of its customers aren’t yet ready to move 100% of their operations to the cloud, but would rather start, and potentially stick with a hybrid deployment. That’s why it chose Azure, as Microsoft has put a lot of effort and development into supporting hybrid environments. Atmosera also expresses a lot of confidence in Microsoft’s forward-leaning partner program.

Company details: Portland, OR-based Atmosera has a long history and undergone a number of transitions. Originally founded as a regional ISP called Easystreet back in 1995, the company started offering B2B web hosting and email services in 1997. By 2001, it introduced colocation and managed services through an expansion of its Beaverton, Oregon data centre, and by 2010 was providing engineering services and private cloud environments to a 50-50 percent mix of corporations and developers. In 2012, Easystreet was acquired by Seaport Capital which soon after merged it with Infinity Internet. The combined entity launched a service called Compliance Cloud in 2014, and then re-branded as Atmosera in 2015. After that, Atmosera began working closely with Microsoft offering Azure IaaS, and eventually Azure-based hybrid cloud services – which brings us to the latest development – the release of new SKUs and proprietary IP for hybrid Azure deployments. Atmosera’s main customer base is in the SMB market, with a 30% enterprise market penetration. The company’s customers are still evenly divided between developers and corporations. Although the company’s highest concentration is in the Pacific Northwest, it does have a presence in 40 states and 10 countries. Atmosera has 60 employees, mostly based in Portland.
